Enfield People for People/Safe Harbor for the Homeless is a collaboration of local churches, government and non-profit organizations and concerned citizens. We are committed to providing a safe, welcoming and warm environment for homeless residents in need of resources and overnight rest. Located 64 Pearl Street, Enfield, CT, we operate nightly from TBD through March 31 each year (subject to change), from 7pm to 730am. Familiarity and a desire to work with the homeless, and experience in a similar capacity is a plus.
We are currently seeking to fill openings for the Seasonal positions of:
Support Staff (6-10pm – flexible):
Set-Up and prepare the Warming Center for Overnight operations.
- Making sure that the Warming Center is prepared to open at 7pm sharp.
- Assist with food prep and serving, Making sure that there are adequate supplies for the night
- Responsible for assisting the Center Specialist by overseeing the activities of the guest; ensuring a safe, caring and supportive environment and that policies and procedures are adhered to.
- Responsible for working with volunteers and providing directions as needed
Overnight Center Specialist, 7pm-730 am or 9pm-730am and/or PER DIEM/On-Call:
Center Specialists are responsible for overseeing the overnight operations of the Warming Center; ensuring a safe, caring and supportive environment for guests, volunteers and support staff. The Center Specialist will also be responsible for overseeing volunteers, Support Staff and guests and ensuring that policies and procedures are adhered to. The Center Specialist will communicate as needed with the Director at all times to ensure adequate staffing and adherence to the established standards of operation of the Warming Center.
- Overseeing intake of guests and assessing guests for needs
- Overseeing volunteer activities and staff during shift
- Maintain the safety and security of the Center by ensuring that doors and other areas are locked/secured per the Center guidelines; monitoring guest’s behavior and taking appropriate action in emergencies in a professional manner
- Responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and order in the restrooms and storage areas as well as inventory for food and supplies as needed
- Ensures that appropriate documentation is completed during the shift
- Attends to the needs of guests and volunteers within the limits of Center policies and procedures.
